Materials Center Leoben Forschungs GmbH
MCL is one of the leading competence centres in the field of material science in Austria with about 150 employees. The COMET K2 Centre for „Integrated Research in Materials, Pro-cessing and Product Engineering“ focuses on the full materials value chain comprising de-sign, processing, characterisation and performance in applications.
In March 2012 the new MCL research area „Materials for Microelectronics“ was established with the objective to develop and investigate new material solutions for the micro- and nanoelectronics industry. Technological innovations in the field of sensor integration, new models for load- and lifecycle calculations, and new co-design approaches in order to reduce product development time are the main targets. MCL carries out innovative research projects together with partners from industry and science.
Role and Key Contribution
MCL contributes to challenges and topics covered by the Mission, Vision & Strategy of the European Micro- & Nanoelectronics in particular in the More-Than-Moore domain. MCL is coordinator of the FP7 project “MSP – Multi Sensor Platform for Smart Building Management”, where 17 partners from 6 nations are working together. The MSP-project is designed to strengthen the leadership of European industries in the highly competitive area of smart sensing systems in mobile applications.
- Materials characterization from nano- to microscale
- CMOS integration of nanotechnology based sensor components
- Nanosensors and multi-sensor systems
